Charles V's castle (today a Parador hotel) is said to have been built by Sancho Abarca of Navarre in the 10th century.The austere façade dates back to the times of Charles V. From the terrace you will enjoy the beautiful view of the Txingudi bay and French Basque coast. Next you will visit the Parish Church of Santa María de la Asunción y del Manzano built in the 15th and 16th centuries on the remains of the town's original fortified walls. The proxy marriage of Marie Thérèse of Austria and Louis XIV of France took place there in 1660.
